all those years ago

WSU Guitar Quartet, early 90's.

Patsy recordings

Welcome readers!
In truth I finished up last Saturday, 25 Patsy Cline tunes for a recording project on C6 lap steel.
My takeaway - Jerry Byrd was a genius.

Long time no see!

Did a gig at the Grand with Dee-Dee, what a pleasure that was. Great crowd and really fun music.

I've got 3 musicals this semester, oh yeah.

Not replaceable.
Revisiting my ELP playlist and feeling a great sense of loss.

NAMM you to heck

First of all it was a blast - great to be away from Ogden for a few days and very cool to attend classes and demonstrations/discussions by some of the most enlightened people in music. Education, technology, career paths, and more!
A few things specifically:

  • Jeff Baxter is pretty easy to spot even for someone with low vision. He's sounding great BTW.
  • The John Lennon Technology bus is amazing AND it's staffed by people with a passion to work with young people and to serve the underprivileged.
  • The exhibit floor is like a musical war zone. I did not touch one guitar - sad but true.
  • Mike Beigel founder of Mu-Fx is a great guy. He even gave me a banana sticker featuring his new phase shifter.
  • No one really knows where iZotope booth #109 was.
  • Jeff Kiesel is a busy. I did get to visit with Mark Kiesel (his Dad), what a great guy. He knew every Carvin guitar I own - he designed them.
  • A lot of hair and leather and nasty looking girlfriends. Was I like that once - maybe I wish I was. I'm sure they were looking at me and thinking "another educator".
  • Once in a lifetime - if I go again it will be as a presenter or product specialist/shredder. All true.
  • Picture at the right - me really tired and hungry.
Thanks for checking this out. Feel free to send me a note or leave a comment.

Cheers all!

Best from Mark

Fall semester done.

Smooth for the most part. A little tricky balancing "The Last Ship" and my classes, but without a doubt totally worth the time and effort.
I have become an expert at using UTA. FrontRunner to the Blue Line to the Red Line, and then the reverse.
Looking forward to a little time off and then we'll see what comes in 2017.

Milestones in 2016:
Ramping up and maintaining a daily practice schedule
Deep sea fishing with my Dad, Bruce, and Micah
"The Last Ship" at Pioneer Theatre Company - making new friends there!
Meeting Sting

Happy New Year to anyone who happens to read this.
